LIVE: BRENDAN RONAN BLOG. "When did we become the Yankees?"

PSA: BRon insists on sending me paragraphs upon paragraphs via text (every 2 out of 3 involve bullshit like Kelly O & the Celts) when things go on in or around Boston Sports teams. Got to the point where i said sack up and write a blog, and ill post it here (and future content) since hes only a Facebook warrior these days. So heres his take on the Chris Sale situation and the Sox as a whole going forward.

So as many of you have heard (or will be soon hearing), the Red Sox just made a deal that will bring Chris Sale, left-handed ace of the White Sox, to Boston. I want to start off by saying for many reasons this is obviously a good move by Sox brass. Among many reasons including the fact his nickname is "the Condor" (and the bevy of personal nicknames I'll give him like "Three Days of the Condor"), he's been a strikeout machine (led the league in '15) and Cy Young quality arm the past five seasons. A Cy Young quality arm that will be added to a rotation that all ready features past (David Price) and current Cy Young award winners (Rick Porcello). Let's not get too much into Rick though .. Kate Upton will start blowing up my phone or destroy what's left of my existence on Twitter. Gotta love super models complaining about how hard their life is..  BUT LETS GET TO WHAT I REALLY WANNA TALK ABOUT HERE.... When did we become the Yankees?

For those of you who didn't instantly catch the reference (which I'm sure many of you did), Red Sox management of the past few years have made multiple moves that eerily remind me of the Yankees during the early-mid 2000s. Breaking out the checkbook every offseason, the whole idea of "buying championships" pretty much became the Evil Empire's motto and seemingly led to the demise of an organization that found themselves in the postseason for the better part of 20 years before (1990-2010). Once heralded as the "good guys" or the Rebellion (if we're gonna run with Star Wars metaphors), we are now becoming the First Order, or the second version of the Evil Empire -- the Yankees .. Okay, I'll stop with the Star Wars references now.

BUT MY POINT IS .. we, the good guys .. Or WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE (RIP Denny Green) are now using the same practices the Yankees regime of yester-year got their organization stuck in the proverbial mud with. Mud that consists of overPRICEd contracts, trade packages sending away the farm, and an all too aggressive GM driven for immediate results .. Sounds all too familiar, ehh?

Well look, there are still many differences. The Sox currently have a great core of young players (something the 2000s Yankees lacked) and there are still many pieces in our farm, including top-ranked 2016 pitching prospect Jason Groome and the future at 3rd base hopefully sooner then later Rafael Devers. I say sooner then later due to the fact the Sox have a Goodyear blimp disguised as a Panda bear currently stationed at 3rd base (I know I know, I saw the pic .. when's his Nutrisystem commercial coming out?). Which brings me to the kicker .. Or the end all be all to this discussion to me .. who is Red Sox manager, John FREAKING Farrell.

Regardless of all the similarities I can draw to the Yankees, or the potential of a Sox team flourishing with young talent, if you want to stake your interest in the Red Sox future .. The man who will decide it, for now, is Farrell (and Trader Dave .. And a few others .. BUT MAINLY FARRELL). As the Sox transition away from the Papi Era, with the help of some vets (more like one vet, Pedey), Farrell will be responsible of guiding the ship forward from here and he can make this dream the past decade or so continue OR can remind us why history will repeat itself and so far history says YOU CANT BUY RINGS. And one last thing, has anyone discussed when Sox throwback jersey night is? Probably wanna let Sale know about that.
I appreciate the opportunity the contribute to the No Shame Swanson Bobspot .. FUCK YOU GUMBY!!!.
